Elbert County Booking Photos
A booking photo is created during a custody event. For Elbert County released inmates, that photo is tied to the jail booking, not to a later public release list. The research did not find an official Elbert County public recent-release roster with photos, and no sheriff mobile app with a release-photo feed was identified in official sources. Colorado treats criminal-justice records under the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act, and booking-photo access has a specific state rule. Colorado open-government guidance cites C.R.S. 24-72-305.5(2), which requires a booking-photo requester statement that the photo will not be used in a publication or website that charges for removal. Elbert County's own records form also requires a signed statement under C.R.S. 24-72-309 about use of requested information.
Where Elbert Mugshots Appear

No Elbert Photo Feed
The official sources reviewed did not identify an Elbert County sheriff mobile app or web roster that publishes recent-release mugshots. The sheriff page links to Facebook and Nextdoor, but the research did not document a release-photo function there. The sheriff page also warns that posted records are historical and may not be updated after posting, so social posts should be treated only as public-information context.
This is the same roster issue described on the 24-Hour Releases page. A person may leave the Elbert County Jail without appearing in a public same-day photo feed. If the photo is needed from the county booking, the direct route is a written sheriff records request.
Request Elbert Booking Photos
The Elbert County Sheriff's 2025 records request form includes Mug Shot as a request category. The fee schedule lists Mug Shot (Booking Photo) at $2 plus research fee, and Booking Report at $2 plus research fee. Research, retrieval, and redaction are listed at $36 per hour, billed in $9 quarter-hour increments with a 15-minute minimum.

News and Social Photo Limits
Local news, press releases, or sheriff social posts may show a photo in some cases, but they are not a routine Elbert County booking-photo archive. A public post may remain visible after custody status changes. It may also omit the release outcome. Use those sources only to understand public context, then verify the jail release or booking photo through the sheriff record, court record, CDOC record, or registry source that actually applies.
Commercial mugshot galleries and pay-to-remove sites are not endorsed or linked here. Colorado's booking-photo requester statement rule exists because of that publication problem. For a released inmate photo, use official records channels and avoid assuming that a third-party copy is current, complete, or tied to the right disposition.
Sealed Elbert Mugshot Records
Sealing can change what the public can see. The Colorado Judicial Branch explains that sealing hides criminal records from public view while the records still exist, and some agencies may still access sealed records. If an Elbert County booking photo request is denied, redacted, or missing, the reason may be sealing, juvenile restrictions, an active investigation, identity mismatch, or custodian discretion under criminal-justice-record rules.
Use official channels. Booking photos should be requested from the agency that holds the record, and Colorado law restricts pay-to-remove publication use.
Expungement and sealing are not the same thing, and access rules vary by case type. Juvenile matters are especially restricted. A CDOC offender photo is not the same thing as an Elbert County Jail booking photo. If an Elbert County defendant was sentenced to state prison, the CDOC offender search may show a state offender photo with status and facility information. That image is tied to state custody. It does not replace the county booking image, and it does not prove the date or reason the person left the Elbert County Jail.
Use CDOC for state-prison, parole, and discharge questions. Use Elbert County sheriff records for the local booking report and mugshot request. If a person was transferred from the jail to CDOC, both records may matter because they describe different custody events.
SOTAR Registry Photo Limits
Elbert County participates in SOTAR for registered sex offender information, and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation provides a statewide public registry search. That channel is narrow. It is not a general released-inmate mugshot search and does not include every person released from the Elbert County Jail. CBI also states that certain misdemeanor sex offenders and juveniles adjudicated for sex crimes are not posted in the same public way.
A registry record may help when the person is legally required to register and the public registry includes that person. It should not be used to fill gaps in a jail booking-photo request. For a routine jail mugshot, request the sheriff's booking photo. For a state-prison photo, use CDOC. For a sealed, juvenile, active, or restricted case, expect limits instead of assuming the photo should be public.

A good Elbert County booking-photo request is specific. Include the full legal name, date of birth, approximate booking date, case number if known, and the release or custody event being checked. Ask for the releasable mug shot or booking photo, and add the booking report when the release date or release reason is part of the question.
